In the digital age organisations are using social media to build trust with their employees and their customers. Used well, social media enables organisations to innovate, stay ahead of the competition and engage with their customers on a more personal level. In my work helping clients manage the risks of social media, twitter hashtag-hijacking often comes up in conversation. A spectacular example is UKIP's recent use of the hashtag #WhyImVotingUKIP as a way of letting their supporters explain the reasons behind their vote.
